Planning Data in Value Based Care

Our value-based care series begins with the most essential issue – data. Before embarking on a value-based care journey, it’s essential to create a plan for your data and to ensure that you have the right interoperability between systems to foster seamless, organized access to the information needed to tie reimbursement to outcomes.

Now is the time to develop new workflows, identify sources of truth, analyze what’s being authorized by insurance companies and uncover trends. These factors help optimize your data so that you can validate it, test it, and report on it – all leading to a successful transition to value.

Here are a few tips Paul Joiner, CEO at Kipu Health, recently touched on at the Behavioral Health Business Value Conference to keep in mind as you shore up your data plan:

  • Ensure your front-office staff is accurately capturing patient information so you can effectively attribute data elements to patients. Attributing data to patients is critical to understanding barriers and opportunities to better patient outcomes.
  • Build trust with other health care providers and payers to foster interoperability. By working together, de-identified patient stories can help a patient’s entire care team deliver the right care at the right time.
  • Learn from medical care colleagues who are succeeding in tackling how data is aggregated and shared. There are success stories out there that can help shape data sharing strategies in behavioral health.
